Principal IC Designer

Job Description

As part of Renesas’s Performance Computing Power Business, you will contribute to the development of our next-generation ICs for low-voltage, high-current, power applications.  This highly experienced team is seeking an experienced DSP and Systems design engineer to expand the team’s capabilities.

We are seeking a Principal IC Design Engineer to specify, develop, and document the architecture and design of the digital regulation loop control sub-system for AI, Server, and emerging high performance computing product spaces.  This position supports our highest value loop intellectual property and requires deep understanding of control theory, mixed-signal DSP architecture and implementation, and the application of those concepts to real-world customer applications.

What you will do:

  • Develop high-level System Verilog models of digital control loop functionality
  • Implement synthesizable RTL to realize performance DSP hardware within process, voltage, and area constraints
  • Work with Applications and Systems Engineering team members to architect solutions
  • Test and Validate Digital Loop features in FPGA prototype systems designed to operate supporting real-time power regulation
  • Support training for DV, applications, and validation engineers on control loop theory of operation and implementation-specific behaviors
  • Mentor and train junior DSP and digital designers
  • Triage and debug customer systems with applications engineers to identify, root cause, and solve field-reported bugs or exceptions.
  • Work within the new product development process to scope work and schedule time needed to support IC tapeouts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in the semiconductor industry with a strong track record in developing digital and/or mixed-signal IC products.
  • Proven contribution to product definition, architecture, and successful silicon delivery in SoC or ASIC environments.
  • Experience in audio, voice, wireless communication, or other DSP-heavy applications preferred.
  • Solid background in digital signal processing (DSP), including algorithm development and embedded implementation.
  • Experience integrating DSP algorithms into SoCs or ASICs in audio, voice, or communications applications.
  • Familiarity with DSP cores (e.g., TI, CEVA, ARM NEON) and real-time embedded systems.
  • Involvement in pre-silicon definition, bring-up, and post-silicon validation.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting OEM/ODM requirements and rapidly changing market conditions.
