Principal System Engineer
Role Overview
As a Principal System Engineer/Product Definer in our Power Management Group, you will be the primary architect driving the next generation of PMIC roadmaps for global flagship smartphones. This high-impact role requires you to bridge the gap between Tier-1 customer requirements and internal R&D, ensuring Renesas delivers best-in-class solutions for power efficiency and density.
Key Responsibilities
· Customer Architecture Definition: Collaborate directly with global smartphone manufacturers to translate Customer Requirements, RFI and RFQ into Engineering Requirements Specification with architectural and electrical specifications.
· System Architecture & Efficiency Analysis: Conduct topology identification and detailed efficiency studies using system-level simulation tools (e.g., SIMPLIS, Matlab, or similar). Develop high-fidelity behavioral models to evaluate architectural trade-offs, transient responses, and loop stability.
· Schematic & Layout Analysis: Review and update system models based on PCB schematics and layouts to account for real-world parasitic elements (ESL/ESR).
· Technical Leadership: Lead cross-functional teams (Design, Marketing, Applications) during architecture reviews and product bring-up. Collaborate closely with IC Design teams to identify the optimal implementation and hardware/software partitioning required to fulfill complex system specifications
· Strategic Roadmapping: Identify long-term value creation avenues in AI-driven power optimization, fast charging, and 5G power delivery.
· Problem Solving: Act as the final technical escalation point for customers, using structured methods, system knowledge and experience to resolve complex system issues.
Qualifications
· Education: BS/MS in Electrical Engineering (Power Electronics emphasis preferred); PhD is a plus.
· Experience: Minimum 12 years of semiconductor experience, with focus on PMICs, DC-DC converters (Buck, Boost, Multiphase), and battery management.
· Technical Skills:
· Proficiency in system design and simulation tools such as SIMPLIS/SIMetrix, Matlab, or Cadence-based environments.
· Deep knowledge of Power Delivery Networks (PDN) and PCB parasitics.
· Proficiency in Python or C for behavioral modeling and task automation.
· Communication: Proven track record of interfacing with Tier-1 OEM technical leadership.
The expected annual pay range for this position is $175,000K - $200,000K. This position is also eligible for bonus opportunities. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience, and skillset of the candidate.
